Goldsborough Hall flies flag for Yorkshire with national culinary award win

Goldsborough Hall near Knaresborough has been judged as one of the best in the country after winning a top food award. It has been recognised as an outstanding restaurant that achieves standards that demand recognition well beyond its local area. 

The dining experience at this 17th Century stately home, near has been awarded a third rosette for culinary excellence, placing it in the top 10% of the AA rated restaurants in the UK.

Goldsborough Hall has long been known as a food destination and the dining experience can now boast a third rosette for culinary excellence. According to the AA, three rosettes demonstrates: “ …the selection and sympathetic treatment of the highest quality ingredients. Timing, seasoning and the judgement of flavour combinations will consistently be excellent. These virtues are supported by other elements, such as intuitive service and a well-chosen wine list.”

Owners Mark and Clare Oglesby were naturally delighted with the award: “Goldsborough Hall is a very special place and we would like every guest to leave with memories of breath-taking surroundings, beautiful interiors, friendly first-class service, and outstanding cuisine. We are very pleased that Head Chef Chris O’Callaghan’s flair in the kitchen has been so deservedly rewarded.”

Chris O’Callaghan has worked in some of the finest 3AA rosette and Michelin-starred hotels and restaurants across the UK. Over the last two decades he has honed his skills building a prestigious career creating dishes focused around the offerings of local farms and shines a spotlight on seasonal and sustainable produce.

Chris says: “Cooking needs passion and heart. It’s about people sharing time together and rewarding their palate with a riot of carefully balanced textures which may be complex to create but easy to enjoy. I am very proud of this achievement and of the progress we are making at the Hall and we look forward to enhancing further the guest dining experience.”

The newly constructed glasshouse and the kitchen garden at Goldsborough Hall grows a wealth of produce to provide the kitchen and gives extra dimensions to flavour and nutrition.

In addition to the third rosette for culinary excellent, AA inspectors confirmed the Hall’s five gold stars for accommodation, the highest AA rating in Yorkshire
