Still plenty more to come at Leeds Indie Food Festival…

Leeds Indie Food Festival kicked off on 9th May and has already delivered sell-out events, genius collaboration menus and unique experiences across the city. With another nine days left of the festival, there’s still plenty of workshops, supper clubs and street-food festivities to come. Here’s a few highlights to look out for…

Some of the best indies in the city have come together to create unmissable collaboration menus and even the bars are getting involved with Leeds Indie Food Cocktail Hours, £5 cocktails, 5-7pm each Sunday-Thursday throughout the festival:

School Diner – 17th-19th May, 15:00-20:00, Chapel Allerton Primary School. The original Street Food Festival in a playground returns, with a get-together of the best street food, craft beer, live music, art and family entertainment.

The North Bar Magical Mystery Tour – 17th May, 18:00-23:55, North Bar. Board the bus at 6pm, at a secret location, and get delivered to the best booze in and around Leeds! The infamously hedonistic tour will take in the whole North Bar family of venues, from Leeds to Otley to Meanwood to Harrogate.

Rawsome Vegan Supper Club – 17th May, 19:30-21:00, The Bowery. Enjoy a three-course set menu hosted by The Happy Caterpillar that combines fresh ingredients with a creative twist for deliciously healthy, energy-boosting fare.

Secrets of Food & Drink Photography – 18th May, 15:00-18:00, Block47 Studio. Learn from the experts on how to turn your ‘dog’s dinner’ shots into the perfect insta-worthy photos using natural light, LEDS and flash, followed by cocktails and canapés.

Owt x The Jar Tree Vegan Sausage Roll Masterclass – 18th May, 16:00-17:00, OWT, Kirkgate Market. Crack the code of the holy pastry with the perfect partnership team or Owt and The Jar Tree.

Below Stairs & Bundobust Bombay Speakeasy – 20th May, All Day, Below Stairs. Discrete, underground Below Stairs will be transformed into a swinging 1930s Bombay canteen speakeasy with cocktails and food pairings. Below Stairs’ signature, multi-sensory innovation with Bundobust’s authentic traditional flavours.

Leeds Indie Food – Founders Forum – 21st May, 18:00-20:00, Sheaf St. Consume Comms and Chapter 81 are linking up to share insights and experiences on useful topics like where to start with branding, social media, scaling up from pop-up to permanent, staffing and logistics and more. Whether you’ve got an idea or you’re an established trader, join like-minded individuals to learn, and share ideas and advice.

Walk on the Wild Side Wild Food: Walk, Tale, Make, Eat & Take – 25th May, 10:30-15:00. Seven Arts. Join professional wild food forager, Craig Worrall for an education on foraging in Gledhow Valley Wood. Return to Seven Arts to create your own fermented garlic and enjoy delicious wild soup.

Bloody Big Brunch – 26th May, 11:00-14:00, Cafe 164. Women’s March and Cafe 164 will be addressing period poverty in a bloody novel way with Bloody Marys paid for in period products and all donations distributed to local charities.

Chef’s Hands Project by Joakim Blockstrom – 9th-27th May, All Day, The Gallery at 164. Running through LIF and beyond, this photography exhibition showcases the fast-moving, skill-filled and often unseen hands of chefs’ to support the Pilot Light Campaign around mental health in the kitchen.
