The Yorkshire pudding may not be as celebrated as we think this Yorkshire Pudding Day (Friday 13th October), with it not even reaching the top four favourite foods in Yorkshire. New research from Beacon, the purchasing company, found that among Yorkshire diners, the Yorkshire pudding was the region’s fifth favourite food, joint with Thai curry[i].
Out of the 2,000 participants surveyed, other British favourites also performed poorly amongst those from Yorkshire, with bacon sandwiches being listed by just 2.3 per cent as their favourite food, with only 2.9 per cent of diners choosing sausage and mash.
Alice Bexon, Purchasing Manager at Beacon, commented: “British diners are spoilt for choice with the amount of meals now available to them so it isn’t surprising there are different foodie favourites appearing. Whilst some of the classics, such as the roast dinner, are still popular, we are seeing some traditional meals such as sausage and mash slip down the list. It’s sad news for the Yorkshire pud this Yorkshire Pudding Day, but with recent excitement around Yorkshire pudding wraps maybe it will climb back up for next year![ii]“
