Alibi Bar in Halifax kicks off Bank Holiday Weekend with VIP launch

100 VIPs were among the first to receive red carpet treatment when Alibi Bar and Restaurant in Halifax opened its doors at the weekend.

Local dignitaries and business leaders from across Calderdale enjoyed an exclusive preview of the day-to-night venue, which is based in Somerset House, a Grade 2 listed Georgian mansion house in Rawson Street, Halifax.

Following an extensive £450,000 refurbishment, the new, independent drinks and dining establishment comprises a main bar with private booth seating, separate intimate cocktail bar and courtyard on the ground floor. On the first floor, a third bar area leads to the opulent Grand Salon which features newly restored intricate plasterwork by renowned Italian Master Stuccoist, Giuseppe Cortese.

The new bar and restaurant opened on Saturday and serves an extensive selection of cocktails, premium beers, wines and champagnes from across the globe. The drinks menu also boasts sixty gins, forty rums and two dozen whiskeys.

Afternoon tea, cocktail masterclasses, live music and private hire spaces are also expected to broaden the appeal of the establishment, while the restaurant servesbreakfast, brunch, lunch and evening meals.

Alibi’s list of predominantly local suppliers includes Holdsworth’s meat suppliers of Halifax, Huddersfield-based fish wholesalers Sailbrand, Forge Coffee Roasters in Sheffield and Bradford fruit and vegetable suppliers Delifresh.

General Manager, Andy Pritchard, said: “We’ve had an incredibly busy opening weekend and initial feedback from customers had been really positive. We’ve been inundated with bookings and, thanks in part to the glorious Bank Holiday weekend weather, our terrace courtyard has proved a very popular spot for alfresco drinks and dining.”

Designed by John Carr of York, Somerset House was originally built in 1766 for local woollen merchant John Royds. Since then the building has had many previous incarnations, including a bank and registry office wedding venue. Until last year, it housed Le Metro restaurant.

Alibi is open Sunday to Thursday, 10am-11pm, Friday and Saturday, 10am-1.30am. Food will be served daily from 10am to 9pm.
