A trilogy of stellar events: North Star offers up three foodie fixtures for Leeds Indie Food festival

With just over a week until Leeds Indie Food festival heads into its fourth year, it is now bigger and better than ever, with over 80 events and 150 collaborations between independent businesses. For its part, North Star Coffee Shop will host three truly unique events that celebrate and showcase provenance, flavour forward thinking and attention to detail.

Collaborating with the likes of Rafi’s Spicebox, Noisette Bakehouse themselves and Workshop, these events will see North Star pair single estate loose leaf teas with Indian dishes, a dessert tasting dinner with Noisette Bakehouse and an evening of fine-dining with Workshop, inspired by Yorkshire produce and nursery rhymes.

The Festival Passport scheme is returning, providing Festival Passport-holders with discounted tickets to events and special discounts at participating independent businesses. Festival Passports are priced at £11 (including booking fee) and £1 from every passport sold will be donated to Action Against Hunger, a charity which works with chefs and restaurants across the UK in order to raise funds to support their work to end child malnutrition in over 49 countries around the world. Festival Passports and tickets to events can be purchased at leedsindiefood.co.uk plus, you can purchase Leeds Indie Food merchandise at leedsindiefood.awesomedistro.com which includes t-shirts, badges, totes, magnets, bottle openers and the first ever Leeds Indie Food x Frank Green re-usable coffee cup.

The award-winning North Star coffee roasters have been going since 2013, making them Leeds’ first coffee roastery dedicated to only sourcing specialty grade Arabica coffee of the highest quality and working with coffee growers across the globe.

Last year, they collaborated with the award-winning micro-bakery, Noisette Bakehouse, to open their first ever retail space at Leeds Dock: North Star Coffee Shop & General Store. The space serves baked goods, breakfast and lunch alongside an advanced coffee offering; sells produce from local suppliers; and sits adjacent to North Star’s roastery and coffee academy.

Rafi’s Spicebox x North Star presents: an immersive Indian cooking demo and single estate tea tasting

The expert spice blenders from Rafi’s Spicebox will be sharing their secrets for creating fresh, vibrant Indian food at home. Throughout the evening they will be demonstrating how to cook six to seven simple, modern Indian dishes, along with lots of techniques and ideas that you’ll be able to incorporate into your cooking.

There will be generous tasters available of all the dishes cooked and the team at North Star will be using their sensory expertise to pair these with some exciting single estate loose leaf speciality teas. Each tea will be chosen to showcase the dish and spice used to highlight the very complementary nature of Indian cooking and tea.

The evening will be rounded off with a bespoke sweet treat created by Noisette Bakehouse inspired by the cuisine of India and the versatile use of spice in baking – a real chance to immerse yourself in flavour.
