This 28th April, Eat North will return to North Brewing Co. taproom for 18 weeks during the summer. From the team being the city’s favourite food festival, Leeds Indie Food, and the award-winning brewery North Brewing Co., Eat North entered the scene in 2017, as the first weekly street food event that Leeds city centre had ever hosted. Last year, the weekly fairs welcomed approximately 9,000 visitors across 12 weeks, featuring a monthly Veg North and special Hopulance editions (North Brewing Co.’s popular DJ night). This year, from 12 May – 26 May, Eat North will also coincide with the fourth annual Leeds Indie Food, with a #LIF18 Special on the final Saturday of the festival which will host even more traders than ever before.
From the 28th April to 25th August, a rotating line-up of traders will pitch up at the brewery every Saturday. With the brewery’s location not far from well-known independents such as Belgrave Music Hall, The Brunswick and The Reliance, the return of Eat North will reaffirm Leeds’ place on the street food map, alongside other Northern cities such as Manchester, Newcastle and Sheffield, where such weekly events are increasingly popular.
Eat North provides an opportunity for street food veterans and first-time traders to showcase their latest menus to hungry punters and curious foodies. The monthly vegetarian edition (and the most popular of all the weeks) Veg North is the chance for traders to experiment with and trial new vegetarian dishes and this year will also see the inaugural Vegan North. Alongside the food offering, there is award-winning craft beer on offer from North Brewing Co., such as their Transmission IPA which was named the UK’s Best IPA at Imbibe Live in 2017. Each week also features DJs, outdoor games and the street food fair is family-friendly and dog-friendly!
Christian Townsley, Director of North Brewing Co. says: “We were blown away by the response to Eat North last summer and can’t wait to team up with Leeds Indie Food on this year’s run. The quality and variety of the food traders lined up is ace and we’re really excited to showcase a range of North Brewing Co beers at the tap. We’ve been plotting monthly specials and are going to be brewing collabs with some of our favourite breweries which will be available at Eat North.”
The line-up for the first five weeks is confirmed, with over thirty different street food traders signing on to serve up everything from Latin American arepas to Kenyan barbeque, plus speciality coffee and sweet options available every week alongside award-winning craft beers, spirits and wine. Veg North will see vegetarian and vegan traders serving up a meat free menu, complimented by vegan beers and wines on the bar, and Vegan North will showcase a fully vegan food and drink offering.
