Leeds locals have welcomed a brand-new pub this month after The Merchant reopened on 6th December following a major investment of £200,000.
Located on Woodhouse Lane, the venue has undergone a complete transformation to become one of the city’s go-to pubs for pre-concert pints thanks to its close proximity to the First Direct Arena. Guests can now enjoy a cosy and homely feel, warm and inviting colours and comfy dining seats, as well as al-fresco dining options, bric-a-brac and graphic artwork that add a modern touch.
Brand-new TVs have been installed to ensure viewing any sporting event is a great experience at The Merchant. Guests can watch all the action live, pint in hand, either at the main bar or in one of the bookable booths with individual screens that have been installed as part of the refurb. For those wanting to be in on the action, customers can enjoy the new pool tables and darts boards.
The pub has a regular schedule of live music and hosts a karaoke night every Friday night and a DJ every Saturday.
The Merchant reopened with a refreshing drinks menu. Alongside cask and real ales and guest ciders that include Leeds Brewery and Black Sheep, customers can ‘get in the spirit’ with a selection of gins, dark rums and vodkas including Hendrick’s Summer Solstice, Beefeater Blood Orange and Verano Watermelon gin. There are also party bowls and a selection of cocktails including the famous Pornstar Martini, classic Singapore Sling and a refreshing Mojito. Low and no-alcohol choices have also been added, including Gordon’s Ultra Low G&T and Cedar’s 0% gin. Customers can also take advantage of the Midweek Madness offer every Monday and Wednesday, with prices starting from £1.75.
When it comes to food, locals can look forward to more pub classics. Guests can now build their own burgers, starting with double, triple or quadruple chicken, beef or soya patties and add toppings such as classic cheese and bacon, BBQ sauce and Wotsits or Hot Buffalo sauce and crispy onions amongst others. There are also juicy chicken wings and dishes to share with friends, as well as pub classics like pies or fish & chips. An extended range of vegetarian and plant-based dishes has been added and including meat-free tikka masala and meat-free sausage rolls.
Matt Lowe, General Manager of The Merchant, said: “This exciting investment has totally transformed the look and feel of our pub, and we are excited to unveil it to the people of Leeds. Whether it’s a daytime pint to watch the sport or a Christmas dinner with friends, The Merchant will be a warm and welcoming pub that the whole community can enjoy.
“As we enter the festive season, we are also taking Christmas bookings with two courses available for £11.49 and three courses for £13.49 – so anyone looking for the best deals and a great place to celebrate need look no further!”
