Our verdict: refurb pays off for Sheffield Meadowhall’s YO!

The Cod Nanbanzuke – one of the stars of the show

Following a seven-month refurbishment, YO! has unveiled its Meadowhall restaurant in Sheffield and the results have helped take the Japanese street food and sushi restaurant to the next level.

Seating up to 70 customers and offering shoppers the perfect spot for a quick lunch, a relaxed early evening meal with friends or a grab and go option, the restaurant provides a varied selection of hot and cold dishes for everyone; from YO!’s best selling Chicken Katsu Curry (which the EatDrinkYorkshire team can confirm remains of the highest quality) to its award-winning vegan version – Tofu Katsu Curry – a welcome new arrival to the restaurant’s menu. Smaller bites such as Sashimi, Sushi Rolls, Nigiri and Temaki are also on offer for those looking for something a bit lighter.

Other highlights from the menu include the Cod Nanbanzuke (our particular favourite – so light and moreish!), Chicken Yakisoba and the Duck Gyoza, while the beef and salmon nigiri were as fresh and tasty as you’d expect from such a familiar High Street name. With a wide selection of desserts to finish (check out the deliciously chewy Chocolate Mochi!), and a variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks to wash it all down with, YO! has certainly pushed the boundaries of its offering at Meadowhall in a lovely, modern location ably abetted by ever-helpful and attentive staff. What’s more, a range of seasonal dishes available from 1st of November will see a new selection of ‘Sumo-sized’ dishes being added to the menu. Well worth a visit.
