House of ANGOSTURA® to introduce its #SoulOfAngostura campaign with pop up event in Leeds

This summer ANGOSTURA® will be bringing Leeds a taste of the Caribbean in both culinary and cocktail form with its #SoulOfAngostura campaign. The campaign will kick off at Vice and Virtue on 1 and 2 June, in partnership with Cocktails in the City, and will celebrate the inextricable link between the Caribbean food of Trinidad and Tobago – the home of ANGOSTURA® – and the world-famous bitters and rums that the brand produces.

The #SoulOfAngostura campaign will be launched at Cocktails in the City at Leeds Town Hall on 1 and 2 June, after which you can head to Vice and Virtue to enjoy the specialist menu, which the venue is making available for a week after the launch. ANGOSTURA® has teamed up with Vice and Virtue to create an inspiring fusion of Yorkshire and Trinidadian ingredients and flavours for the menu, accompanied by a special #SoulOfAngostura cocktail. Vice and Virtue has developed its take on the Chapeltown Punch, a Trinidad-inspired punch using ANGOSTURA® 7yo, mango, passionfruit, locally sourced rhubarb, rose and Yorkshire tea, which is set alight on serve. This classic punch will fuse local Yorkshire ingredients with tropical fruits found in Trinidad, celebrating the historical ties that Leeds holds with the West Indies. This inspiration will continue with the food pairing of delicious salt mackerel and rhubarb dumplings.

Before the Notting Hill Carnival became a nationally recognised bank holiday celebration, the Leeds West Indian carnival was the first in the UK, starting in 1967, so it seems fitting to kick off the #SoulOfAngostura campaign here at Vice and Virtue, a prohibition style restaurant and cocktail lounge on New Briggate in Leeds City Centre. In the two years since Vice opened, it has gained a reputation as one of the city’s best fine dining restaurants and cocktail bars. Owner and head chef, Luke Downing, has created a niche concept that has seen the business recently win Leeds’ Best restaurant, as well as best fine dining, best chef and best service at the Yorkshire Evening Post’s Oliver Awards. Winner of the best bar, best judged drink, and people’s choice award for best bar at Cocktails in the City 2017, Vice should be one of the first bars to visit at the 2018 show.

The #SoulOfAngostura campaign will then bring a taste of Trinidad to other selected cities across the UK, travelling to Cocktails in the City at London’s Bedford Square Gardens, on 3 and 4 August, and The Mansfield Traquair in Edinburgh, on 9 and 10 November, where chefs and venues will again fuse local ingredients with the flavours of the Caribbean.
