Getting into the spirit – Weetons of Harrogate launches private label gin

This Christmas Weetons of Harrogate launches its own private label gin, infused with distinctive locally sourced ingredients and distilled in North Yorkshire. Hand crafted in small batches, this artisan gin celebrates the very best of Weetons: independence, exceptional ingredients and with Yorkshire at its heart.

“Since Weetons was established in 2005, it has built up a trusted reputation for exceptional local produce, with an award-winning butcher & deli counter, a fabulous food hall and a vibrant café,” says General Manager Philip Sands. “Weetons private label products have expanded over this period as it has worked closely with trusted Yorkshire producers and suppliers to further enhance the Weetons brand. What better way to compliment the Weetons range than with a deliciously refreshing handcrafted gin, distilled and bottled on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales?”

Weetons Yorkshire Gin is distilled exclusively for Weetons by Yorkshire Dales Distillery, based at Catterick Garrison on the outskirts of Richmond. Owned and run by ex-army officer Tony Brotherton and his partner Sarah, this distillery was chosen for its fresh approach and commitment to sourcing excellent Yorkshire ingredients.

“When we were developing the gin for Weetons,” says Tony. “We wanted to balance a unique flavour with a recognisably classic gin whilst preserving the core values of Yorkshire Dales Distillery. I believe that the balance of botanicals produces a crisp and refreshing London Dry Gin which embodies the look and feel of Weetons: somewhere that you can really feel at home and be assured of superb quality.”

The water for the gin is sourced from the local River Swale and the added botanicals are Yorkshire redcurrants, heather flowers and honey with a twist of dried pink grapefruit, giving it a clean, fresh, sophisticated taste. Delicious served with high quality unflavoured tonic, the citrus notes of Weetons Yorkshire Gin are heightened with the addition of a twist of citrus peel; lemon or lime in the summer and perhaps orange or grapefruit in the winter.
