A pre-Christmas wine tasting event is to be held in Helmsley, raising money for Yorkshire Cancer Research.

On the back of the successful Ginilicious gin festival held in the summer, Helmsley Wines will be hosting the wine tasting on Friday 2 November. Starting at 7pm and running until 10.30pm, the event will take place at Helmsley Town Hall.

The tasting will offer people the chance to select wines for the festive period – either for entertaining, to enjoy with Christmas Dinner, or for gifts. Exclusive offers will be available, as well as a raffle in aid of Yorkshire Cancer Research with the chance to win prizes including Sunday lunch for two at The Black Swan and dinner for two at the Feversham Arms.

Tickets are priced at £25 per person, which includes the opportunity to sample from more than 100 different wines and enjoy a selection of canapes. A donation will be made to Yorkshire Cancer Research for every ticket sold.

Jayne Potter at Helmsley Wines said: “The format of the event will be quite informal, and it should be a really fun and sociable evening. We’ll have around 100 wines from across the world so people can try ones from different countries and regions. We’ll be there to help guide people as to new wines they might like based on their preferences. Hopefully people may discover a few new favourites and can get ahead of themselves for Christmas – and at the same time raise much needed funds for a very important local charity.”

Alex Green, Relationship Manager at Yorkshire Cancer Research, said: “We’re delighted Helmsley Wines has chosen to support Yorkshire Cancer Research. The money raised will help fund vital research and community health projects across Yorkshire. We hope everyone will have a fantastic time on the night and find some great new wines to enjoy – over Christmas and in the future too – but, of course, we always encourage people to be aware of the impact upon their health and enjoy in moderation.”

Tickets are available to purchase from Helmsley Wines on Bridge Street, online at www.helmsleywines.co.uk and also from the chair of Yorkshire Cancer Research’s Helmsley Committee by emailing [email protected].
