A North Yorkshire producer has launched an exclusive range of locally grown potatoes in Aldi stores across the North-West.
Dunnington-based RS Cockerill has collaborated with fellow Aldi supplier T Wilson & Sons, based near St Helens, to roll out a new line of its unique locally grown North West Early Potatoes. The potatoes will be launched in stores as part of the supermarket’s award-winning Specially Selected range from July.
The family-run business will be supplying fresh, early season Gemson New Potatoes grown on the Wilson family farm, to Aldi stores throughout the North West over the next two months. The bags will also feature new sealing technology, which reduces the amount of film the business produces to help make the product as sustainable as possible.
Joanne Forster, Sales Manager at RS Cockerill, said: “The new Specially Selected North West Earlies range will give shoppers the opportunity to support their local growers. The range has been lovingly grown and nurtured by our dedicated team and we’re proud to see them land on Aldi shelves this month.”
RS Cockerill is one of Aldi’s longest-standing suppliers, having started working with the supermarket in 1990. The stability of the long-term partnership has helped the business, which employs more than 100 full-time staff in the area, to grow its team and invest in new facilities, including new state-of-the-art washing and grading equipment.
Joanne Forster added: “Working with Aldi has given us the stability to plan for the future and help forge longer term relationships with growers such as T Wilson & Sons, as well as enabling us to expand our range with new products, including the new Specially Selected range. We look forward to continuing this relationship as we move forward.”
Julie Ashfield, Managing Director of Buying at Aldi UK, said: “RS Cockerill’s range of potatoes has proven incredibly popular since we started working with them, and we’re confident that the new Specially Selected North West Early Potatoes will be a hit with shoppers in the North West.
“Building long-term relationships with British suppliers has been key to our growth, so we’re delighted that we’ve been able to help RS Cockerill on their journey so far, and look forward to continuing our work with them in the future.”
