Harrogate-based entrepreneur Monalisa Fathima, who launched her business Saffron Tree just this year, has scooped two coveted food industry accolades at the Deliciouslyorkshire Taste Awards 2019 in the best new business and best ready to eat categories.
From purpose-built kitchen and production premises at Follifoot Ridge Business Park in Pannal, Monalisa creates a range of authentic Indian prepared chilled meals including achari murg, aloo methi and vegetable korma. Monalisa has a PhD in Education, specialising in learning within cooking practices.
The Taste Awards are the region’s largest food and drink awards and aim to showcase the county’s finest producers, retailers and hospitality businesses. Now in their 16th year, the Deliciouslyorkshire Taste Awards have grown to be the North’s most prestigious industry accolades, with the event attracting hundreds of entries from businesses of all shapes and sizes.
This year’s ceremony was held at the Pavilions of Harrogate.
Saffron Tree has also been shortlisted in the national Great British Food Awards 2019 for its gosht ka salan dish, caramelised lamb sautéed in whole spices, slow cooked in chilli, tomato and crushed fenugreek leaves.
Monalisa said: “This has been a whirlwind first year in business and I’m overwhelmed to have received two fantastic awards at the first time of asking, especially when considering the very high calibre of other entrants. I’ve always been passionate about producing authentic Indian food so to turn this passion into my career and be officially recognised for it is an absolute dream come true for me. To know that people are enjoying the food that I produce serves as real motivation to build on this success and makes me feel very proud of what we are building with Saffron Tree.”
