Balance beats speed at the latest new opening at Dean Clough in Halifax as MAMIL Café Bars launches its fourth venue.
Pedal & Pour by MAMIL is the newest addition to Dean Clough’s café culture, bringing a cycling theme that offers more balance than speed to the busy lives of the Calderdale community.
While the concept celebrates the popular sport, Pedal & Pour focuses on great coffee, breathing space and community spirit, rather than simply being a pit stop.
MAMIL (Middle Aged Man In Lycra) first opened in Brighouse in 2021, followed by Halifax town centre in 2024 and Hebden Bridge in 2025. The family-run business has secured a five-year lease on a prominent 2,080 sq ft ground floor unit within the main mill building at Dean Clough. The venue is positioned at the heart of the site, where more than 3,000 people work and visitors gather for the renowned art galleries and theatre.
David Van Gestel, founder and owner of MAMIL, said: “We are delighted to open our fourth venue at Dean Clough which provides a wonderful destination backdrop for our growing customer base.
“Balance and handling is the true foundation for success in achieving your goal safely while conserving energy in the sport of cycling. Pedal & Pour reflects that ethos in many ways, creating a special place where the community can pause, connect, collaborate and support one another.”
Jeremy Hall, Chairman and Managing Director at Dean Clough, added: “It is wonderful that MAMIL has chosen to locate its fourth venue with us. Its family focused proposition perfectly aligns with that of Dean Clough and Pedal & Pour is such a great addition to the wealth of amenities we already have here. We warmly welcome them into the Dean Clough family which continues to provide choice, innovation, diversity, and authenticity for our audiences.”
Pedal & Pour serves locally roasted coffee, craft beers, wine and cocktails, alongside a food offering that ranges from brunch and grazing plates to more substantial dishes.
The café also places strong emphasis on its community role, featuring a display board where customers and local organisations can share business information, promote events and post community notices.
Pedal & Pour is committed to annual fundraising initiatives, with donations from food sales and a programme of events planned throughout the year.
For its first chosen cause, the café will support Bowel Cancer UK, with Van Gestel taking on the London to Brighton cycle ride this September to help raise vital funds.
Dean Clough has become a hub for entrepreneurial enterprise, supported by its distinctive approach to its occupiers. The former textile manufacturing site, stretching over half a mile, has been transformed over the past 40 years into a sustainable, award-winning destination for work, leisure and culture, serving around 3,000 people. Ongoing investment has created a diverse environment that combines Grade A office space with independent retail, leisure and cultural amenities.
Located on the edge of Halifax town centre, Dean Clough sits between Leeds and Manchester, around 15 minutes from the M62, with direct rail links to Leeds, Manchester and London.
